Colossians 2:6-7

And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

Colossians 2:6-7

Let Your Roots Grow Deep

This verse is a beautiful picture of Christ’s love and what it does in us and through us when we surrender over to the Lord. The roots of His love grow down deep in us and an exhilarating life in Him begins to be built on His principles. Your faith will grow strong in the truths you have been taught. These truths have stood the test of time and have been the foundation for countless Christians who have gone before us. This is what the growth of a Christian truly looks like when we allow God to do His work in our lives.

A life rooted in the Lord and His goodness will overflow with thankfulness. Have you ever seen someone who held on to bitterness or anger? They allow it to fester and take hold of every area in their life until it ruins them. When we allow God to work, He can break those chains and new growth can take place.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May your truths take root in my life and may I find joy, peace, patience, and hope in you so I can give those things to others. Amen.

Psalm 86:11

Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you.

Psalm 86:11

Perseverance

This life can feel weary sometimes. It can be exhausting trying to continuously figure things out and live by your own ways. Only when we give our will over to the Lord and His will can we begin to feel peace. We must seek His ways so we can live according to His truth and Word. The Bible must be our guide for morality and righteousness. If we look to the world instead, we will see many paths but all will lead to death. If we look to God and His Word, we will see one path that leads to life.

We must also allow God to purify us. Sometimes His purification will bring heartache, brokenness, and pain, but it is necessary to bring honor to Him. For instance, if there is a friend in our life who tries to lead us astray and deny Him, He may have to prune our lives so that we are surrounded by people who lift us up. The loss of a friendship can be heartbreaking but rewarding when we see ourselves begin to grow. Give your all to Him and persevere so that you may attain the prize as Paul often said in his epistles.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
I want to run the race well. I want to persevere and grow in my relationship with you. May the things I say and do be pleasing to you. Amen.

Matthew 6:14

If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.

Matthew 6:14

Forgiveness

Forgiveness can be extremely difficult depending on how deep the hurt is. The deeper the pain, the harder it is to let go. Imagine the weight of the world’s sins on the shoulders of Jesus Christ as He went to the cross. Yet, He willingly died to set us free from our sins, the weight of it all, and the hold sin had on us.

This verse tells us that if we are able to forgive others, then our Heavenly Father can forgive us. It goes on in verse 15 to say, “But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” This is because bitterness and unforgiveness place a weight on our shoulders that causes us to continue to live in the past. We are unable to see freedom. How could Christ forgive us if we hold that bitterness in our hearts. Forgiveness frees you and allows you to move on with your life and truly live.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You are freedom. You set me free from my bitterness and unforgiveness when you sent your Son to die for my sins. May I truly live in your forgiveness and extend that to others. Amen.

2 Timothy 2:1-2

Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.

2 Timothy 2:1-2

Ambassadors for Christ

This is what discipleship looks like- teaching others and training them up to be ambassadors in the Word. When someone comes to know the Lord, it is so vital that they get plugged in to some discipleship, whether that be in a small group or one on one with someone. If this doesn’t happen, then it is hard for the Christian to grow. Our job as Christians is to find new believers and mentor them in the faith. Many people are afraid to do this because of their own faith. They may not feel like they are strong enough or knowledgeable enough to teach someone else. So they don’t do anything. Discipleship is not only for the new believer but also for the season believer. By teaching and training someone else in the faith, you will grow too. You will learn more about the Bible and who God is when you take people under your wing. If you never do that then you miss out on this blessing and opportunity. So what is holding your face back? Find a way to get plugged in and begin growing yourself, so you can train other believers to grow as well.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May I grow in my faith Lord so I can train and teach others to believe as well. I want to be closer to you so that others will be closer to you too. Amen.

Hebrews 10:24-25

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Hebrews 10:24-25

Church for the Broken

What is church? Is it a place where you can go to find friends? Or a place where you make traditions? Jesus says in Mark 2:17 that, “When Jesus heard this, he told them, ‘Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.’” This is what church is. It is a place for the sick and broken. A place where believers can come together and encourage one another as this verse says. Church is a way to meet together to worship as one body of believers.

Church is so important for the health of the body. By meeting together, Christians invest in their relationship with the Lord.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May your church continue meeting together. Lord give me a desire to be a part of your body of believers. Amen.

Psalm 16:11

You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.

Psalm 16:11

An Abundant Life in Him

A life with God is an abundant life. A relationship with Him means a life of blessings and joy. John 10:10 says, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” Our enemy, the devil, only comes to destroy life. However, Jesus came to give us an abundant life.

What is abundant life? It means to never want, to have plenty, to even have more than enough. This doesn’t mean that nothing bad will ever happen to you, but it means that if you have a relationship with the Lord, you find fulfillment in His Word and who He is. You will not feel like you need anything; you will have a hunger for the Lord and long for a deeper relationship with Him.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for your salvation. You have given me an abundant life. A life in you is completely fulfilling and will never leave me empty. May I always long for you. Amen.

2 Timothy 4:8

And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.

2 Timothy 4:8

The Glorification of Believers

One of the great promises of God is that when this life comes to an end, the Christian will be rewarded in heaven. Pauls says in 2 Timothy 4:6-7, “As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.” Paul realized he was nearing the end of his life and would soon see the God he had served for so much of his life. He had given everything as a servant of the Lord. He knew that the prize awaited him in heaven. It was not as if he had earned a place in heaven, but that he would be rewarded for the righteous life he had lived. The glory of the Lord awaited him in heaven. He would see God the Father face to face and worship Him in all of His glory.

As Christians the glory of the Lord and the blessings that await us should bring joy to our lives. There is something better than this world. Someday, we will see Him in all His fullness. Spend some time today praising God for the promises that await.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
I can not wait to see you face to face. Thank you for your promises and the blessings that await me in heaven with you. Amen.

1 Corinthians 6:11

Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

1 Corinthians 6:11

The Sanctification of Believers

Sanctification is the process of purification. According to Dictionary.com there are several definitions for this biblical word: to make holy, set apart as sacred, consecrate. Another definition is to purify or free from sin. When someone comes to know the Lord, God begins the process of setting them apart. Their salvation guarantees them a heavenly home when they die, but sanctification is what draws them closer to the Lord and deeper in their spiritual walk.

God shapes us and molds us into the person He created us to be. He is the potter and we are the clay. Jeremiah 18:6 says, “As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.” We are in His hands. We can trust Him as our Creator and know that everything we go through in this life is part of the process to sanctify us.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
I am your clay. Mold me and shape me. Help me trust that everything you are doing is for my good. I know that you are a good God.

Acts 16:30-31

Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”

Acts 16:30-31

The Salvation of Christ

Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ! That is what it takes to be saved, to be a believer. You must believe. Believe that God is who He says He is. Believe that Jesus is who He claimed to be. Believe that Jesus did what He said He would do. According to Dictionary.com, the word believe means “to have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something, although without absolute proof that one is right in doing so.” To be saved, one must have confidence in the truth of the gospel, the existence of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and the reliability of the salvation of Christ. One must believe without visible proof. To believe is to be absolutely sure that Jesus saves.

Do you believe today? Do you have full confidence in the gospel today? Pray and ask God to strengthen your faith everyday when you have doubts. Salvation is a sure thing, and to believe is to know Christ as your Savior.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the gift of salvation. I believe in you and your saving grace wholeheartedly. I know that you are real and active in my life. Amen.

1 Peter 5: 6-7

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

1 Peter 5: 6-7

Humility Before the Lord

Humility. It is the opposite of pride. The root word of humiliation. It is a word that the world really does not understand. Why would you ever want to be humiliated? Humility brings about a selfless attitude. It helps us see something bigger than ourselves. It helps us understand our purpose and God’s purpose for mankind. Humility can look like denying yourself and admitting when you are wrong. Humility can mean asking for help and realizing you can’t do this life on your own. Humility can mean standing for truth and righteousness when everyone else gives in. It can mean something different for every single person.

Pray today about how you can humble yourself before the Lord and give in to the love and power of God the Father. By humbling yourself, you will find a closeness with the Lord and your relationship with others.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Help me be humble before you. May I always put my pride to rest and think of others as better than myself. May I put them first and serve them instead of myself. Amen.
