I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.
Psalm 40:8
Delight in His Will
God is not a God that makes demands of us or forces us to do what He wants. That would be a dictator. He created us as a people with the freedom to love and choose who we serve. There is great joy to be found in doing the will of God and serving Him. Following His will and living for Him should delight the Christian. We should serve out of our love and gratefulness for the One who rescued our soul. If you were rescued from a burning building, you would always feel a sense of gratitude to the one who rescued you. You wouldn’t turn and run back toward that burning building after you were saved. Jesus is the one who rescued you from the pits of hell! Yet, we live our lives without a sense of urgency. Some of us continue to play as close to the burning building as we can get without going inside, with no gratitude for the one who saved us and took us away from the ashes.
If you do not delight in doing the will of God, or if you are not living your life according to His Word, ask yourself why. Do some searching and reflecting on all God has done for you and what your response has been. Turn to Him today and pour out your thanks!
A Prayer to Remember
Dear Lord,
Thank you for saving me! You are a good God who cared about my well-being and rescued me from the darkness. May I live my life in such a way that brings you joy. Amen.
