Acts 20:24

But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.

Acts 20:24

Advancing the Gospel

Paul’s entire life was centered around advancing the gospel. He had been a man who persecuted the church and believers, but once God changed His life on the road to Damascus, he was forever changed. No longer would he be a man who prevented others from knowing the gospel; now he would be a man who furthered the kingdom of God. He truly felt that life was not worth living unless he was preaching the gospel and ushering others to Christ.

Is this how you feel about the world around you? Do you have a passion to see others come to know Christ in this way? You are surrounded by people everyday who do not know the saving grace of Jesus like you do. Maybe it is your neighbor down the street whose kids play with yours everyday. Maybe it is a coworker who needs to hear the gospel. Maybe it is a family member or a close friend. They are all around you. Pray and ask God to give you wisdom and the words you need to speak truth to their hearts.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Give me a passion and desire for the people around me who need to hear your truth. Help me understand the reality of what it means that they don’t know you. Give me the words and wisdom. May they know you the way I know you. Amen.

Acts 13:47

For the Lord gave us this command when he said, ‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles, to bring salvation to the farthest corners of the earth.’

Acts 13:47

Missions is the Heartbeat of the Church

God made us to be a light to the world. He created us so that we could be His hands and feet, bringing the gospel to the ends of the earth. When we share with others what God has done, we are fulfilling our purpose in this world. As a church body of Christ, it is our job to participate in missions. We should care about what happens to missionaries around the world. We should be a part of their mission work whether that be praying for them as they serve, giving money to missionaries overseas, or even joining them in their mission.

As individuals, we should be participating in mission work, and churches should be participating as well. One way a church can act, is to start praying corporately for those serving overseas- put them on prayer lists, talk about them in prayer meetings, pass out prayer cards to families to start praying for them. If the church begins to act and really make missions and evangelism at the heart of their ministry, they will see their body of believers come alive.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May my church become active when participating in missions. May it be at the heart of our ministry. Help me see how I can be a part of what you are doing in other countries. Amen.

Isaiah 57:15

The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.

Isaiah 57:15

Brokenness Is What He Longs For

God is the God who restores the brokenhearted. He revives their hearts when they have been crushed. The word brokenness comes from the word break, which means reduce to pieces or fragments. That is exactly how we can feel sometimes, isn’t it? When we go through a traumatic experience it can feel as though we’ve been reduced to ashes. We tend to live in that broken state, paralyzed and fearful of what the future holds. When we live in that state, we miss out on life’s blessings and rewards.

King David understood this state all too well. He had committed adultery and murder and was broken after he realized the crimes he had committed against God and man. Psalm 51 is his cry out to the Lord declaring His brokenness and what the Lord has done. In verse 17 he states, “The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.” He realized that God desired man to give Him their brokenness. See, when we give Him our brokenness, He can begin to work in our lives. Restoration can then take place.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Please take my brokenness and restore my soul. I give you my worries, my troubles, my sins, and my love. You are worthy of all of these things. Amen.

Genesis 2:24

…a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

Genesis 2:24

Setting Boundaries

What a beautiful picture of God’s design of marriage! Man leaves his family to be joined with the woman, his new family, and the two become one. Many problems in marriage can be traced back to this idea: they never “left” their family to become one with their spouse. Now this doesn’t mean actually leaving your family and never talking to them again, but it is the picture of leaving the authority of your family and joining your spouse. A marriage cannot truly thrive when it is under the authority of parents or in-laws. Together, the husband and wife must come together, make decisions together, share life together.

It is never too late to set boundaries in marriage. All it takes is a conversation about what types of boundaries to set and how to keep each other accountable. You can set boundaries and still have relationships with those around you.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Help me set boundaries in my life. May I devote myself to my spouse and those I love so I can love and care for them better and be a light for you. Amen.

Matthew 10:37

If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine.

Matthew 10:37

Loving God More

The Ten Commandments say, “Love your mother and father.” So if we’re supposed to love our mother and father, then why does this verse say not to love your mother and father more than you love God? Sometimes as Christians we tend to love people fiercely, so much so that it surpasses our love for God. We don’t have to stop loving someone; we just have to love God more! Our love for Him should surpass our love for anyone else.

Just imagine, if we can love God that much, then we can love people with a strong, unconditional kind of love too. Our love for people should flow out of our love for God.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for your love. You are a good God and you are always loving me unconditionally. May I love others with that same kind of love. Amen.

Micah 6:8

No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8

A Righteous Life

God longs for His people to do what is right and love righteousness. We must choose righteousness when we are faced with the temptation to sin. We judge the difference between right and wrong based on the Bible. It is our moral compass. We should cling to what is right and good. We should also love mercy. Dictionary.com says that mercy is “compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one’s power; compassion, pity, or benevolence.” This is much easier to do for people who are easy to love. It is much harder to do for our enemies or someone who has offended us. Only the power of God can help us love mercy.

Last, walk humbly with God. Give Him thanks for everything He has done and what he is about to do. Living a righteous life is the best kind of life and the most fulfilling kind of life.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Help me live a righteous life. May I cling to what is good, do what is right, love mercy, and walk humbly with you every single day. Amen.

Hebrews 12:14

Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.

Hebrews 12:14

A Holy Life

A life of strife is a difficult life. Instead, you should live as someone who wants to make peace with others and live in the holiness of God. This is the exact definition of peace. We work to live a holy life so that we can be at peace with others and with the Lord. This does not mean we work for our salvation, but instead we live a life of peace because of the transforming work God has done in our lives.

Holiness means without blemish or devotion to something according to Dictionary.com One of the greatest ways we demonstrate holiness in our lives is how we act with others. If we live at peace with others, we will experience the holiness of God. Everything we do should be to experience the holiness of God.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for saving me and being patient with me when I fail you. Give me the patience I need to extend forgiveness to others so I can be pleasing to you. Amen.

Luke 6:27-28

“But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you…

Luke 6:27-28

Love your enemies

This is the hardest kind of love. Love the people who hurt you or want to see harm come to you. The natural human reaction is to see them fail or even to get revenge. I have often struggled with these emotions. I wondered why I would ever feel that way toward someone who hurt me when I have never wished that for anyone. There’s something about pain that makes you feel things you’ve never felt before. I quickly realized that my feelings were due to my human nature and the sin that lives inside of me.

True healing comes from thinking the way God thinks. Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you. Once I began to do this, it changed my entire perspective. It brought healing to a wound that had been a part of me for years. Bitterness and anger only hurt you. Loving, doing good, blessing others, and praying for your enemies brings about healing and restoration.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You know my heart and you know that I want to love my enemies. My sin keeps me from doing that. Please help me forgive and love like you love. Amen.

1 Corinthians 15:33

Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.”

1 Corinthians 15:33

Uplifting Friendships

The best kind of friendship is someone who lifts you up and encourages you. God created friendship so that we wouldn’t walk through this life alone. Friends are meant to support us and speak truth over us. Godly friends are some of the best friends we can have because they can encourage us to seek God in all things. Worldly friends, or friends who don’t know the Lord, will not give us the same godly encouragement. It is not necessarily wrong to have friends like that, but they will not offer the same that a Christian friend would.

This verse goes beyond just friendship and says that “bad company corrupts good character.” Friends who are perverse or live sinful lives will be poison to the Christian. Christians must be careful who they surround themselves with so that they are not enticed by the things of this world. Romans 12:2 tells Christians not to conform to the patterns of the world, but instead be renewed by the transformation of your mind. Bad companies will follow the patterns of the world. Transform your mind by surrounding yourself with godly friends!

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for my godly friends and the people who encourage and support me every single day. May I continue to find those kinds of friends. Amen.

Isaiah 54:10

For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you.

Isaiah 54:10

Godly Love in a Broken World

God’s love is as vast as the ocean and as high as the mountains. His Word says in 1 John 4:19 that we only know how to love because He first loved us. In the beginning of time He created the world so that man could walk with Him and delight in Him. Then, He continued to show man His unconditional love after man sinned in the Garden of Eden. He poured out His grace on mankind that even though sin prevented man from remaining in the Garden, He took care of man for generations. He rescued man from Egypt where they lived as slaves. He gathered the remnant of people from the countries that overtook Israel because of their sins and denial of God. He gave them their land once again. He sent His Son to earth in the form of a baby to walk the earth with man. The greatest form of godly love, though, was when He sacrificed His Son on the cross for the sins of mankind. That is godly love.

We can love with that kind of love. We can have a faithful love that never leaves, never forsakes, never disappoints. We can only love like God loves if we continue to live in His love every single day.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You are so faithful. Your love never fails. You never break your promises. You have poured out your mercy on my life. May I live like you lived and love like you love. Amen.
