The Company That Shapes Us
We become like the people we spend time with. Paul says it with a saying his readers already knew: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
He puts it in his long chapter on the resurrection. Some in Corinth were saying there is no resurrection of the dead, and Paul spells out where that leads: if the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, because tomorrow we die. What people believe shapes how they live, and it spreads to the people around them. So he tells the Corinthians to come back to their senses and stop sinning, and then he spends the rest of the chapter giving them back their hope.
Think about the people you’re closest to. Do they make it easier or harder for you to believe? And what do they hear from you?
A Prayer to Remember
Lord, I’m grateful for anyone who has ever helped me believe. Make me that kind of friend to someone else.
