Proverbs 16:24

Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.

Proverbs 16:24

Gentle Words are Healing

Kind words are so good for the soul. They can restore relationships and bring healing to others. Hateful words do the opposite. They can destroy relationships and tear someone apart. It is important to use our words wisely when talking with others.

Think about a time when someone said something to you that encouraged you and brought you hope and joy. Kind words can be sweet to the soul like honey. Now think of a time when someone said something hurtful or condescending. Those kinds of words can have a damaging effect on those who receive them. Your words will either bring life or destroy it. God’s words have a healing effect on those who read them. That is how your words should be as well. Always strive to speak kind and gentle words to those you meet. You will never know the type of impact you will make.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May my gentle words have a lasting impact on those I meet. Your words have given me life and I want to show how you have affected me. May I be a light to others. Amen.

Philippians 4:5

Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

Philippians 4:5

Let Your Gentleness Be Known

Consideration for others is an important quality to have. Too many times we see the opposite in people; we see someone who is not kind and considerate to those around them and hurtful in the way they live. This verse tells us to be considerate in ALL we do, not just with people we like or are close to. We should be considerate with our coworkers, our family members, those we know are lost, and people we do not get along with. Another word for consideration is gentleness. We do not know the hearts of those around us, so when we do not handle others with care or gentleness, we may be destroying our witness.

God has been gentle with us, so we ought to be gentle with others. He is a God who cares for His people. He wants His people to care for the lost so they may come to know Him.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for your gentleness. You have proven to be a Father who cares for His children. May I care for others in the way you have cared for me. Amen.

Matthew 25:21

The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!

Matthew 25:21

Good and Faithful Servant

Most people want to be told that they have done a good job when they have accomplished something. It is no different with Christians. Many Christians want to be told that they have done a good job when it comes to their faith. They want to hear, “well done, my good and faithful servant.” This is a goal or something to look forward to in heaven. This does not necessarily mean we need to be discouraged when we mess up and focus on a works-based faith. Instead, we should always live as though we want to bring joy to our Father just as a child wants to please a parent.

When we live for the Father, we will experience the joy He gives here on earth. He will be full of praise and we will be called faithful. Live as though you are living to please your Father in heaven.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
I want to please you and you alone. May I bring you joy in the way I live. I want to be a good and faithful servant. Thank you for being my Father. Amen.

1 Corinthians 4:2

Now, a person who is put in charge as a manager must be faithful.

1 Corinthians 4:2

Proving Faithful

It is never easy to work for someone who does not manage their business well or is unfaithful. It is better to work for someone who is faithful and manages well. We are all managers of our faith when we come to know Christ. We are in charge of how strong or how weak our faith is. It is important to invest in your relationship with God so it will remain strong and you will be proven faithful. We all mess up sometimes, but a faithful believer is one who gets back up and pursues God.

How would you describe your faith? Are you managing well or are you investing little into your relationship with God? You will have a weak faith if you do not work on it every day. The people around you will see your faith; your faith will affect them. So manage your faith well!

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May I have a faith that appeals to others and ministers to them. Help me to manage my faith well so it is appealing to others. Amen.

Galatians 6:10

Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.

Galatians 6:10

Do Good to Everyone

Do good to everyone, especially those of the faith. Take every opportunity to show goodness to each other. Unfortunately, we see the opposite in churches sometimes. There are people who only do good to those whom they consider their friends. You may have heard people use the term “village” to refer to the people in their circle. While it is incredibly important to have people who support you and can encourage you, we should make sure that we see those who are not a part of our village. The danger is that many Christians only focus on those people and do not see anyone else. This can be why some people will not step foot in a church.

It is our job as Christians to show kindness to everyone we encounter, especially in our churches, so people who join us will see the work of Jesus in our lives.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Help us show kindness to our Christian brothers and sisters and to those we don’t know. May we show them the goodness you’ve shown us to others. Amen.

Ephesians 4:29

Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

Ephesians 4:29

Words of Life

This verse talks about two different types of language: words that are good and heal and words that are foul or abusive. Words can make or break someone; they can affect both Christians and those who do not know the Lord.

Let your words be helpful to others. You have the power to be an encouragement to those around you by the things you say. Fill your mind with scripture and the good in the world so that your speech can uplift others. When you spend time in the Word and prayer, your mindset will change and you will see others in a new light. Then, you can be encouraging. Be careful when you are around others who do not know the Lord. Pray and ask God to give you the words so your speech glorifies Him.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May my words be pleasing to you. Give me your wisdom when I am around others who do not know you. I want my words to be a light for you and an encouragement to others. Amen.

Psalm 5:3

Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.

Psalm 5:3

Patience in the Morning

Be patient in the morning and patient in your mourning. Patience can be incredibly straining when you experience a tragedy or a difficult situation. It can be hard to wait on the Lord when you feel like all you hear is silence. So why should you wait on Him?

In a world that tells you not to wait for anything, but instead take hold of what is in front of you, be patient, knowing that God will be the good in your life. He will be faithful to fulfill His promises. Know that He is always working for your good. He is trustworthy; you can bring your requests to Him. When you trust Him in your waiting, you will see His faithfulness. This verse tells you not to just wait, but wait expectantly. Understand that when you trust Him to be your guide, you will see Him do amazing things.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You are good, Oh Lord. Help me to trust in you and your work. Help me to wait patiently for you. Amen.

Psalm 37:7

Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

Psalm 37:7

Wait Patiently

Worrying about others can cause unneeded stress and can wear on you. Instead, this verse tells us to wait patiently for God to act. Trust that He knows all and sees all. He will deal with the evil in the world. It is not our job to worry. Instead, we are to be a light in a dark world.

For instance, many churches split or even die out because they allow evil to seep into their congregations, and they spend more time worrying about it instead of seeking the Lord to heal their church. When God’s people come together and pray instead of worry, He will bless them. Come before Him whether you need to seek Him yourself or your church needs to seek Him. Give Him your worries and stresses and wait on Him to do the work.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
I give all of my worries to you. I know you will be faithful to me and see me through difficult times. May I focus on you instead of anyone else! Amen.

Hebrews 12:14

Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.

Hebrews 12:14

Peace for the World

God‘s desire is for us to live in peace with one another and unified with one spirit, living for him. When we let even a little dissension come between us, we begin to destroy what God has built up. It is not always easy to live in peace with one another, but it is necessary to be able to live a holy life. You cannot have holiness apart from God‘s peace that He gives. If you try to live a holy life, but are angry with your brother in Christ, then the holiness will be fake. Others will notice that it is fake and not real.

Part of having peace in your life is accepting Christ’s forgiveness and also forgiving those around you. If Christ could forgive you and all of your many sins, then you can forgive someone else for something they have done. It takes perseverance, and seeking out the Lord to help you forgive someone else. Forgiveness will lead to peace with one another which will then lead to unity in the body of Christ. If the body of Christ is not unified, then the world will not be able to see Christ in us. So lean on the Father and ask Him to help you forgive those who have wronged you. Then, and only then, will you find peace.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the peace that only you can give. Help me forgive my brothers and sisters in Christ and those who have wronged me. Help me live a holy life. Amen.

2 Thessalonians 3:16

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.

2 Thessalonians 3:16

God of Peace

He will be your peace in times of trials and in times of triumph. Peace is not something that can be manufactured. There is only one creator of peace and that is God himself. We see countless times in the Bible when God bestowed his peace upon his people. One time in specific is when Jesus was traveling by boat with his disciples and there was a raging storm (Mark 4:35-41). The disciples were very afraid for their lives, but Jesus was not. He stood up and commanded the sea to obey and he brought peace to the waters. The disciples were amazed at how even seas obeyed him.

It is true peace when only God can command the chaos in our lives to be silent. We cannot. There is nothing we can do to stop the chaos other than trust in the Lord. He will calm the raging storms if we allow him to. However, if we try to take control and manufacture the peace to calm our storms, we will be very disappointed. We may even cause more damage. So make sure you trust in the peace only God can give, and you will discover a calm in your life.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the peace that only you can give. You are my rock. You are the calm in the midst of the storm. I trust in you. Amen.
