Hebrews 12:11

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

Hebrews 12:11

Parents, Keep it Up!

Discipline is one of the most difficult parts of being a parent. Many parents shy away from disciplining their children in fear of ruining a friendship with them. Other parents discipline so much that their children rebel. It is important to seek the Lord for wisdom and the Scriptures when disciplining your children.

While it is not always fun to be the bad guy, it is necessary to provide boundaries and accountability for your children. However, discipline is not the only part of parenting. You must train your children in the Lord to be followers and seekers of his word. If they have a relationship with God, and you have a relationship with them, then you will see the rewards of your labor, whether it is now or years from now. The other thing you must do is invest in your relationship with your children so that when you discipline, it will be to help them grow, not always for punishment. This kind of discipline will reap a peaceful harvest for years to come, and will train them in the way they should go.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Help me be a parent that listens to my children, loves my children, and provides boundaries to help them grow. May I always seek out your wisdom. Amen.
