Deuteronomy 31:6

The Lord your God will go with you. He will not leave you or forget you.

Deuteronomy 31:6 ICB

He Will Never Leave You

God will never leave you or forget you. What an amazing promise. He never leaves us, but we leave him time and time again. He is there to pick us up when we fall, welcome us with open arms when we’ve left.

Think of the story of the prodigal son. The father didn’t leave; it was the son who left. He wandered far away from his home and everything he knew. However, the second he returned the father not only welcomed him; he threw a party! God is delighted when we return to Him. His desire is that we would want Him first before anyone else. He is the only one who will satisfy us!

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

Thank you for your love. Thank you for never leaving me and always pursuing me. You are a great God who never disappoints. Amen.

Hebrews 11:22

It was by faith that Joseph, when he was about to die, said confidently that the people of Israel would leave Egypt. He even commanded them to take his bones with them when they left.

Hebrews 11:22

Joseph’s Faith

Joseph spent many years in Egypt after his brothers sold him into slavery. He saw failures as well as successes. He also saw the hand of God at work and amongst the people. He knew that the Israelites would not always be in Egypt even if they had to be there for a short time. Someday they would return to the promised land that God had given generations beforehand. His faith was so strong that he knew that God would deliver on his promises. He knew that God would always be faithful.

What about your faith? Do you have a faith that is so strong that you can say without a shadow of doubt that God will deliver on His promises? Spend some time in your Bible today reading some of the stories in Genesis about the men and women of faith.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the faith of Joseph. May I have the same faith knowing you deliver on your promises. Amen.

2 Peter 1:16

For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes.

2 Peter 1:16

True Accounts

When Peter talked about Jesus Christ, it was a first hand account. He knew Jesus personally. He had walked with him and sat under his teachings. Everything Peter said about Jesus was true. Nothing was made up. However, some people thought that he was just telling stories.

The same can be said of today. When you give an account of what Jesus has done in your life and what you know to be true, there will be some who will say it is just stories. Some even say he was a very good teacher and he actually walked the earth. They do not believe in the authority of God, though. Continue to share about Christ and who he was, share about what he has done in your own life, his words, and your understanding from the Bible. You never know what God is doing in the hearts of other people.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
I believe your Word wholeheartedly. Every story, every account is true. May I share it with the world! Amen.

Galatians 5:16-17

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

Galatians 5:16-17

Led by the Holy Spirit

When you allow the Lord to lead you through the Holy Spirit, you will find making decisions and following the Lord easier. If you keep your eyes on Him, you will be able to put to death the things of the flesh, your sinful desires. This verse says that the sinful desires want to do evil. There is a war that rages inside of us, a war of good versus evil. The Holy Spirit is the good; it’s the spiritual nature that we received when Jesus saved us and placed His Spirit inside of us. The war is a war between ourselves and the new spiritual nature. So the saying, “you are your own worst enemy” can be true! We can stand in the way of what God wants to do in our lives. These two natures are always fighting each other. The sinful nature tries to strip away your freedom, while the Spirit tries to help you live in your freedom.

This is also important to remember in others. Every saved person has the Spirit living inside of them, but they also are battling their sinful nature. If we really understood this about each other, maybe we would extend a little more grace and forgiveness.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

Thank you for giving me the Holy Spirit to help guide me through life. May I choose you over my own sinful desires every day. Amen

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Philippians 4:6

Make Your Requests Known

We are a people who worry about everything. We worry about where we will live, who we will marry, what job we will have. We worry about finances, friends, and family. We worry about little things everyday and the big things. Worrying pollutes our minds and hearts. It prevents us from trusting in the Lord. What is it that you worry about? What do you need to do to stop worrying and begin trusting in the Lord?

This verse says that we should not be anxious about anything but in EVERYTHING let your requests be made known to God. How do you make these requests known? Prayer and supplication- communicating with the Lord. The key to stop worrying is to talk with God. This is something you need to do everyday. When you wake up in the morning and you feel the pressure of the day and it is overwhelming, pray and ask God to calm your heart. Ask Him for His help everyday. When you lay your head on the pillow at night, thank Him for His care over you.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

Thank you for your watchcare over me everyday. Help me remember that when I am feeling overwhelmed or anxious, I can turn to you. Amen

Hebrews 11:20-21

It was by faith that Isaac promised blessings for the future to his sons, Jacob and Esau. It was by faith that Jacob, when he was old and dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons and bowed in worship as he leaned on his staff.

Hebrews 11:20-21

Promised Blessings

These two verses show us the progression of faith. Abraham had faith and passed it on to Isaac. Here we see that Isaac passes his faith along to Jacob and Esau. Then Jacob passes his faith along to his son and all of Joseph’s sons. Whatever your faith is, it will be passed down to your children whether you like it or not. If you have a faith that is not very strong, then your children’s faith will not be strong either. If you invest in your faith and grow your faith every single day, then your children will have a faith as strong as yours.

Take some time today to stop and pray for the ones who come after you, whether that is children or just the next generation. Pray about how you can invest in the lives of others and help grow their faith, too.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May my faith be strong so that I can teach the next generation your truths. Amen.

2 Timothy 3:15

And how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 3:15

Childhood Faith

The phrase “faith like a child” comes to mind when reading this verse. Jesus tells the disciples in Matthew 18 that unless they turn from their sins and become like little children, they will never get to the kingdom of heaven. Why would He use children as an example of faith? Have you ever worked with children? Or maybe you have children of your own. One of the best things about children is that they do not take much convincing; they can have more faith than any adult. A child doesn’t necessarily have to see to believe. Maybe this is why Jesus says to have faith like a child.

It is important to listen to the next generation and train them in such a way to live with faith and love Christ as these little children did in Matthew 18. If you listen to this verse and train your children up in the scriptures, they will become wise and ready for salvation.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

I know that children are a gift from you. They have such a simple faith. May my faith reflect theirs as I train up my children to know and love you. Amen

2 Peter 1:14-15

For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life, so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.

2 Peter 1:14-15

Being a Legend

Peter, left a true legacy. He would not just be known for being the disciple who denied Jesus. But instead, he was known for everything he did after that moment, he stood before the Sanhedrin and proclaimed the name of Christ, no matter what would happen to him. He led the first early church thing gathered believers. He preached Christ until his dying day. That is quite a legacy to leave. What is your legacy. What will be said of you when you die, will it just be about the things that you loved or will others know that Christ was your entire life. Take some time today to think about what type of legacy you really want to leave.

A Prayer to Remember

Help me guard myself against the enemy’s attacks. Protect my heart so I can better serve you. Amen.

Ephesians 5:22-23

For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church.

Ephesians 5:22-23

Wives, Submit to your Husbands

God commanded husbands to love their wives and wives to submit to or respect their husbands. He made male and female to live together as husband and wife and do life together. He gave them very different personalities. To the woman he gave a gentle heart and spirit. With that came the longing for her husband’s love. To the man he gave a decision making attitude and heart that guides others. With that, though, came the need for respect. It is no wonder that God tells the wives here to submit to their husbands’ authority. He knew that man would need to be respected if he was to lead his family.

Submitting and following your husband is one of the highest ways you can show him respect. God created him to be the head of the family just as Christ is the head of the church, so when you undermine him, you are undermining the authority God gave him. He made man and woman to fit together and complement each other.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

You made a perfect union when you created male and female for each other. Help me be the person you created me to be in my marriage. Help me submit to my partner and work together in everything we do. Amen

Galatians 5:25-26

Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.

Galatians 5:25-26

Living By the Spirit

These two verses are in complete contrast of one another. One describes a godly life led by the Spirit. This life is described all throughout Galatians five as one that surrenders and allows the Lord’s guidance. If you follow this type of life by giving yourself over to the Holy Spirit, you will find fulfillment, lasting friendships, and satisfaction.

The other verse tells of a life that is constantly led by self. This life includes selfishness, conceitedness, provoking others, and jealousy. You will not get very far living that kind of life. You will find emptiness, loneliness, and depression always trying to please yourself instead of the Lord.

You must decide what type of life you are going to live, and this isn’t a decision that is a one-time decision. You must sacrifice yourself and your desires daily and choose a life with Christ every moment of every day.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
I want a life led by the Holy Spirit instead of a selfishly led life. Be my guide and my life. Teache me your ways. Amen
