Ephesians 3:16-17

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.

Ephesians 3:16-17

Rooted in Love

What is the purpose of a root? A root supports and holds a plant up. It delivers nutrients to the rest of the plant. The deeper the root is, the more it can support the plant. As a Christian, we need to plant roots in the love of God. These roots will support our growth in Him, hold us up, and support us when the world comes against us. When we are rooted in God and His love, we will have access to the unlimited resources that this verse talks about. He will empower us with inner strength, the type of strength that only comes from the Holy Spirit.

There is a promise that is rooted within this verse: Christ will make his home in your heart when you trust in Him. This is the promise God gives the believer at the moment of salvation. He plants Himself in the heart of the saved, gives him or her strength deep within them, and sustains them with His love. This promise never changes; it has stood the test of time.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

Thank you for your promises and for sending Jesus to live in my heart. You are good and are the source of my life. Amen

Acts 16:30-31

“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Acts 16:30-31

Saving Your Household

What if you could save every person in your family? There isn’t a believer who wouldn’t want that for the people they love. No one intentionally wants to see their family members spend an eternity in hell. However, when we do not share the gospel with them, it is like we are telling them we do not care about their spiritual well-being. In fact, many people spend more time caring for the physical needs of their families than they do the spiritual needs.

Paul and Silas were in prison for sharing their faith when there was an earthquake that shook the foundation of the prison and broke the doors open. The jailer quickly ran to see if the prisoners had escaped, knowing that there could be grave consequences for him. The jailer was so amazed to see Paul and Silas still there that he immediately wanted to know how to be saved. The faith of the prisoner not only saved him but also his household. When we place our faith in the Lord and seek Him, we will have a great effect on our families!

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for your salvation. You rescued me from hell. Help give me courage everyday to share this great gift of salvation with everyone around me! Amen

2 Corinthians 5:20-21

So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:20-21

He Became Sin

Jesus Christ, who was perfect, became the complete opposite: sin. He knew no sin, yet He became sin and endured the wrath of His Father. He did this so we might come to know Him and share the gospel truth with our communities, our nation, and the world. We are His ambassadors. We bear the name of Christ through our salvation, so it is us who carry His name to the world. We speak for Christ; we are His voice, when we plead with our friends, family, and anyone who is lost. He speaks through us if we allow Him to!

Have you allowed the voice of Christ to be silent in your life? Go before Him today and ask the Holy Spirit to give you the words. Luke 12:12 tells us that the Holy Spirit will teach us what we need to say when the time comes. So pray for the people you love who don’t know Him, the world around you and the lost community, and those bringing the gospel to the nations. Be a part of His great work.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for sending your son Jesus to take the place of my sin. You have made me your ambassador. Please give me the words to say to the lost so I can be a light for you. Amen

Ephesians 2:8-9

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

Ephesians 2:8-9

Through Grace

What is the greatest gift you ever received? Was it a material object of great value? Was it a trip or vacation? Was it something that has no monetary value like friendship? Do you remember what you felt when you received that great gift? The greatest gift of all; however, is the gift of salvation from God the Father. This gift is so great because we didn’t do anything to deserve this gift, yet He gave it anyway. In fact, we did the exact opposite of deserving. There is nothing we could do to save ourselves from sin. God, in His deep love for us, sent His greatest possession, His Son, to the earth to die on a cross for our sins. This was because of his grace. Grace gives us what we don’t deserve.

We are saved through that wonderful grace when we ask for His salvation. The best part about it is that we didn’t do anything but place our trust and faith in Him. It is work that He does, not us so that we don’t boast. We can only brag of what He has done!

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

Thank you for your beautiful gift of salvation. You are deserving of my love. I will brag only of you and all you have done in my life. Amen

Lamentations 3:22–23

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; They are new every morning; Great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22–23

Great is His Faithfulness

Have you ever had someone break a promise or have you broken a promise to someone? It can feel devastating and make you lose your faith in others. The word faithful means true to one’s word, promises, vows. God defines the word faithful. His nature is all about faithfulness. No matter how hard we try, we are still unfaithful at times. It is who we are. Yet, His love never ends. His mercies never end. They are new every single morning because He is faithful. He is everything we are not. When we are unfaithful, He is faithful. When we hold a grudge, He offers forgiveness. When we lack compassion, He gives mercy. Great is His faithfulness!

What is it that you need today from Him? His love? His mercy? Or His faithfulness? Whatever you need, you will find in Him. Seek Him everyday and you will find all that you need. Most of all, you will find someone who will never disappoint, someone who will never break a promise.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

You are so faithful. You never disappoint. May I always remember that I can find love, hope, mercy, and faithfulness in you. Amen

Song of Solomon 8:6-7

Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, its jealousy as enduring as the grave. Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame. Many waters cannot quench love, nor can rivers drown it. If a man tried to buy love with all his wealth, his offer would be utterly scorned.

Song of Solomon 8:6-7

The Strength of Love

Most Christians are familiar with the infamous love chapter: 1 Corinthians 13. However, the entire Bible is a love story from God’s heart to ours. He weaves His love in and out of the Bible through His relationship with mankind. Song of Solomon is a series of love letters between a young woman and her beloved. Some theologians say that it is about a relationship between Christ and the church. Either way, this is a beautiful picture of what any marriage should look like whether it is a new marriage or a seasoned one.

Every marriage should be grounded in love. First, the love of Christ, and next, the love of each other. 1 John tells us that we only know how to love because God loved us first. His love is the reason we can love each other deeply. However, we can only love if we continue to focus on His love first. This verse says that love is as strong as death, it’s the brightest kind of flame, and nothing can quench it. That is the love of God. He loves that way and shows us how to love our spouses that way.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

Your love is better than life or anything the world can give. Teach me how to love my spouse with that kind of deep love that never fails. Amen

Ephesians 5:25-26

For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.

Ephesians 5:25-26

Husbands, Love your Wives

Christ loved the church so much that he gave up his life for her. He made her holy, clean, and washed by the cleansing of God’s Word. God instructs husbands to love their wives in the same way. Love her so much that you would do anything for her. You would even give up your own life just so she may live a holy and clean life. This is a selfless act. God told husbands to love their wives in a selfless way.

God created women with a need to love and be loved. His first desire is to fill that need Himself. He wants to be her first love. Then, he wants man to fulfill that need. He created women with a tender heart and knew they would need to be loved, so he placed man and woman together. They literally were made for each other and made to love Him. Man can only love woman, though, if he loved God first. So husbands, seek the Lord so you can love your wives with that same kind of love.

You can learn how to meet your spouse’s needs in marriage if you study the way He wants you to love in marriage.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

I know you created man and woman for each other. May I love my spouse with the type of love that would give up everything- the way you love me. Amen

Ephesians 5:1-2

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

Ephesians 5:1-2

A Life Filled with Love

A life filled with love for others is a pleasing aroma to God. If God is a God of love, and we were made in His image, then we have the capability to love others. We can be godly and show others how to live godly. This is what discipling others is all about. When we become a Christian we are giving our lives over to the Lord to be a blessing to others. Is your life a blessing to others? A pleasing aroma to God? Are you living in such a way that brings joy to His heart? If we bear the name of Christ, then we are to live as though we are His children. This means choosing light over darkness, right over wrong, and good over evil.

If we keep our eyes on Him and follow Him, we will find that others will want to follow the God we serve. They will wonder why our lives are different and what it is about us that radiates from the inside out. His light will shine in us. Do you want others to know the God you know? Do you want them to have a relationship with Him too? Then live in such a way that points others to Him instead of repelling them away from Him and you will see their lives changed, too.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

I want to live the type of life that points others to you and leads them to your throne. I want to be a vessel for you. May I live in such a way that is pleasing to you, Oh Lord. Amen

1 John 1:9

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.

1 John 1:9

Forgive Each Other

The Gospel of Jesus is completely based on forgiveness. Jesus gave up His life so that we may be cleansed from our sins. At the moment of salvation, God forgives our sins forever. Think about that for a minute. Jesus took on the punishment of our sins, the gravity of our sins, so that God could forgive us from every one of those sins: past, present, and future. He cleansed us from the wickedness of our hearts. If He can forgive us from all of that, then surely we can forgive those around us, especially our spouses. His ultimate example of forgiveness on the cross teaches us to forgive others.

In the same way, we are in need of forgiveness as well. So if we claim that we have not sinned or are never wrong, then we call God a liar. Can you imagine calling Him a liar to His face? Well, that is what you do when you claim to be perfect. Not only that, but you also show that His word does not live in your heart. You proclaim the love of Jesus in your heart when you forgive and ask for forgiveness. Be gentle with each other and forgive often.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

Thank you for forgiving me from my sins. May I learn to forgive my spouse like you have forgiven me. Amen

Isaiah 54:5

For your Creator will be your husband; the Lord of Heaven’s Armies is his name! He is your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, the God of all the earth.

Isaiah 54:5

God, Your Redeemer

God, the author of love and the creator of marriage calls himself our husband. He loves us that much, with a deep, passionate kind of love. That word redeemer means to redeem, buy, or pay back. Our sins condemned us to hell, even the littlest sin condemns us and prevents us from being with the Father. When Jesus died on the cross, He purchased us back from the grave with His blood. We were pledged to Satan because of our sins, and He bought us back. He is not only our Redeemer, Creator, and husband, but He is also the God of Heaven’s armies. In fact, this verse says it is his name! What a beautiful picture! He storms the gates of hell with all of His armies! He himself is an army! We mean that much to Him.

This God who created people to be in a marriage relationship with him, who rescues His people from the grave, redeems them and gives them a new name, is the God of all the earth. He reigns; He sits on His throne and rules everything from the beasts of the fields to every nation. He is King. Will you submit to His authority in your life and allow Him to be your redeemer today?

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,

You are my rescuer and redeemer. You loved me so much that you bought me and stole me from the pits of hell. May I praise your name forever. Amen
