John 14:19

Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live.

John 14:19

You Will See God

I cannot imagine what it was like for the disciples when Jesus died. They had pledged their lives to following Him and for years they walked with Jesus. He was everything. Then one day He was gone. Not only that, but He was tortured and murdered. He died a terrible death on the cross. They would no longer see Him everyday.

However, His death brought them life. Every one of their lives was changed. Take Peter for instance. He had denied Christ three times before Christ’s death, but after His death, he became a force to be reckoned with. He was such an ambassador for Christ. He preached the gospel and helped rescue the lives of many. So this verse became real for him. Since Christ lived in him, he truly lived. When you recognize how Christ lives in you, then you will truly start to live.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You have given me life through Jesus. Thank you for His salvation. Help me live in that salvation everyday. Amen.

John 14:18

No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.

John 14:18

He Never Leaves

God never leaves us. This is a promise from the moment of salvation to our dying day. We can rest assured that He will be with us and never leave us alone as orphans. He is God the Father. He is our Father. We can trust that He will love us as a father loves and care for us in the way a father should.

When it seems as though everyone else leaves, know that He always stays. He is the one who is trustworthy. Man will always fail, but He never does. He loves His children and stays when no one else does. Spend some time in prayer today thanking Him for being the Father who stays.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you Lord for being my Father, the one who stays. I know you are always with me. Amen.

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:12‬

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:12‬

Clothe Yourselves with Him

Most of us get up and put on clothes everyday: work clothes, school clothes, pajamas, etc. just as we change what we wear, we ought to put on the things of God every single day. Everyday we should get up and put on compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. When we do this we will live the way that God wants us too. We will experience all of these things and will also show these qualities to everyone else.

Take some time to think about which of these qualities you struggle with and pray that God will help you with that everyday.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Help me put on these qualities and live in such a way that spreads your name. Amen.

John 14:17

He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.

John 14:17

The Spirit of Truth

The Holy Spirit is the one who speaks truth over your life. When the world is whispering lies in your life, He shouts the truth to drown out the lies. It would be impossible to go through this life if we didn’t have the Holy Spirit giving the words of truth to us. We would be easily swayed by the world.

This verse says that the world cannot receive the Holy Spirit because it does not look for him; therefore, it does not recognize him. This is why they deny what that church says and think that the ways we live are foolish. They do not seek the truth because they are not looking for the truth. Spend some time in prayer today, asking God to help you speak words of truth when the world tries to tell you lies.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
The world can not recognize you because they do not have you. Help me speak words of truth and share the gospel with all I meet. Amen.

John 14:16

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.

John 14:16

The Advocate

When Jesus left the earth, He left a piece of who He was with His followers: the Holy Spirit, the advocate for mankind. The Holy Spirit is part of the trinity: God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and Holy Spirit (or the Holy Ghost). The Holy Spirit is the one that goes between man and God the Father. The word advocate has three meanings in Merriam Webster’s dictionary: “one who pleads the cause of another, specifically: one who pleads the cause of another before a tribunal or judicial court, one who defends or maintains a cause or proposal, or one who supports or promotes the interests of a cause or group.” So in essence, the Holy Spirit is the one who pleads on our behalf before the Lord, he defends us, and he supports us. We are not condemned to death for our sins because the Spirit pleads for us. Remember that when you pray, you have someone going before the throne of God on your behalf. Praise Him for that!

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for sending the Holy Spirit, my advocate. He is my support and my defender. Amen.

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:23‬

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:23‬

Work for the Lord

Paul tells believers here that whatever they do, do it for the Lord. Not everyone can be a preacher or minister for the gospel, but whatever you do, you can work heartily for the Lord. If you work for men, you will never be able to meet their standards. They will never be satisfied. When you work for the Lord you are serving a higher purpose.

If you begin to see your job differently, as if you are working for the Lord, then you will act differently. Everyday when you go to work, think about the purpose and why God has you there.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May I serve you everyday when I go to work. Amen.

John 14:15

If you love me, obey my commandments.

John 14:15

A Deeper Love

We show our love for the Lord by obeying His commandments. When we do what He wants us to do, we show how much we love Him. Think about a husband and wife. One of the greatest ways they can show each other how much they love each other is the way they act toward one another. If they are always complaining about one another, then it will be difficult to really love each other deeply. However, when husband and wife go out of their way to show each other how much they love each other, their love will grow deeper and deeper. This is the same as our relationship with God. When we obey His commandments, our love for Him will grow and grow.

Take some time to pray and ask God to give you a love for His commandments. Pray and ask Him to give you a love for who He is.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
I want to do right by you, Oh Lord. I want to desire your commandments and will. Amen.

John 14:13-14

You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!

John 14:13-14

Ask In His Name

There are some in this world that take the Bible out of context, especially when it comes to prayer. Some think that God is a genie in which you can just ask Him for whatever you want and He will grant it to you. This is not how God works at all. Sometimes you may not get the answer you want. You may get a “no” or a “wait.” When Jesus says, “You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it” it does not mean that we should ask for any material thing we want. Instead, we should make sure our desires align with God’s desires. When that happens, then we can ask for anything in His name because it will be His desires and His will.

Take some time to pray today and ask God to place His desires in your heart, so that you will know what He wants.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May your desires become my desires. I long for what you long for. Amen.

2 Timothy‬ ‭1:12‬

which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me.

2 Timothy‬ ‭1:12‬

Not Ashamed

Paul was not ashamed by the gospel. In fact, he was the opposite. He was confident in the gospel and the power that it holds. He was also confident in who God was. He knew that God would be faithful and deliver on His promises.

It can be difficult to stand for truth in a world that does not cling to truth. Spend some time in prayer today asking God to help you not be ashamed and to give you the confidence you need to live for Him.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Give me confidence to be able to speak truth and spread the gospel. Amen.

John 14:12

I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.

John 14:12

A Transformed Life

Something happens in the believer’s life when he or she comes to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ. The life within the believer begins to transform making him desire more of the father. Jesus says here that anyone who believes in him will want to live and act like him. Their motivation will be Christ. They will want to see others come to know Him and will long to see their lives transformed as well. What is your motivation for doing the work of Christ? If it is anything short of Christ Himself, then it is false motivation. Christ should be every reason.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May my motivation for doing your work always be Jesus. May he be my reason for everything. Amen.
