For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!

A Gift of Light
The Israelites looked forward to this prophecy long before it happened. They clung to the promise of God, that He would send a Savior into the world. He would be the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace. As the verse said, they trusted and knew that His government would rule with peace, fairness, and justice. He is a good king who made a way for His people to escape the darkness. While they didn’t get to see the prophecy fulfilled, they trusted Him just the same.
We live on the other side of this prophecy today! We have seen the promise fulfilled and know full well the saving grace of Jesus Christ. So this Christmas, praise God for the Son He has given us. That Son is the light of the world and drives out the darkness. So worship Him for being the light!

Dear Lord,
You are the light of the world. You are the hope of the world. You have driven the darkness out of my life and rescued me through the precious gift you gave in the form of the baby Jesus.
