Ecclesiastes 7:8

Patience Better than Pride

Have you ever started something and then gave up in the middle? Maybe it was a project that you just didn’t have time to finish. Maybe it was a hobby that you thought you enjoyed in the beginning but as it went on you decided it wasn’t as much fun as you thought. Maybe it was a service project that you thought would go great, but people lost interest as it went on. These things happen, don’t they. However, this verse says that finishing is better than starting and patience is better than pride.

When we do anything outside of God’s will (even if it’s for the church), then it will not be as successful. If we do anything and take credit for it or allow our pride to get in the way, then we will not find the joy of the Lord. Instead, we should bathe everything with prayer, give careful attention to detail, and give all credit to the Lord. He should always be our purpose and motivation.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May everything I do be of you. May I always finish what I start and have patience rather than pride. Amen.
