Colossians 3:14

Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

Colossians 3:14

Put on Love

Put on love. Love is the quality that binds everything else in perfect harmony. It binds all of the qualities of God together. If you do not love, then you cannot show kindness and gentleness toward one another. You cannot have patience with your fellow man. Love is needed to put on all of these other qualities.

When you have love, everything is in harmony. Churches can have unity, families are supportive and work together, marriages have common goals. Without love, none of these things are possible. So strive to live in harmony with others by showing them love.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Help me put on love everyday. May your love shine through my life so that I can show others your love. Amen.

Colossians 3:13

Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

Colossians 3:13

Forgive One Another

One of the ways we can show others the love of God is through forgiveness. When we forgive others as God forgave us, then they will see the love of Him in our lives. Our offenses are great against the Lord, greater than anyone else’s offenses against us. So we should make allowance for our offender’s faults. This can be extremely difficult when they do not apologize. Maybe they do not even realize that they have offended you. Yet, by offering forgiveness, you can also move on with your life. You will not hold onto their offenses anymore.

Who do you need to forgive today? Relationships are much more important than anything that can separate them. Pray and ask God to help you forgive today.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Help me forgive those who have offended me. May I forgive others like you have forgiven me. Amen.

Psalms 18:2

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.

Psalms 18:2

Who Is God to You?

God is the rock of our salvation. He is the firm foundation. As the Psalmist says here, He is our fortress that we can hide in and our Savior. He is the one who rescues us. He is our rock, the place we can go to for protection. He shields us for harm and the devil’s schemes. He is the power that saves us and the place of safety. He is all these things.

David wrote this Psalm after He had rescued him from Saul and his enemies. He had been running for so long, so he knew what it meant to hide in the fortress of God for safety and protection. Do you know what it means to hide in Him? Have you found safety in who He is? What does He mean to you?

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You are my rock and my salvation. Thank you for never failing me. Amen.

Psalm 127:3-4

Children are a gift from the Lord;
they are a reward from him.
Children born to a young man
are like arrows in a warrior's hands. Psalm 127:3-4

Children Are a Gift

Children are a beautiful gift from the Lord. The Bible describes how they are a reward and blessing for the parents. This verse even describes how they are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. Parents should be proud of their children because they are a gift.

God created children and has a special purpose for them. They can bring joy to their parents when the parents are walking with the Lord. As parents, you can train your children up to know and love the Lord. They can walk with the Lord and honor Him with their lives. If you are a parent today, thank God for your children and ask Him to show you how to love and care for them.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for my children. Help me train them and love them the way you do. Amen.

2 Corinthians 6:14

Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?

2 Corinthians 6:14

Unequally Yoked

Paul’s advice here is for believers who are not married. He tells them to seek out a mate who is equally yoked, someone who also loves the Lord instead of a nonbeliever. Why would he say this? He goes on to question how righteousness can partner with wickedness and light live with darkness. The two cannot exist together. One will overtake the other and most of the time the nonbeliever has more influence than the believer. Perhaps Paul knew that it would be a hard life for the believer if he or she was always trying to witness to the other spouse.

There is still hope for those who are in relationships that are unequally yoked. With the strength of the Lord, the believer can be a witness for the spouse. It will be a much harder life, but it is possible with God. Nothing is impossible with Him!

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May my marriage be glorifying to you. May we bring you honor in all we do. Amen.

Hebrews 13:5

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”

Hebrews 13:5

Do Not Love Money

1 Timothy 6:10 tells us that the love of money is the root of all evil. This verse in Hebrews tells us not to live money, but instead be satisfied with what you have. Love God and trust in Him instead of loving and worshipping money.

In a world that is obsessed with money, it can be difficult to focus on the Lord instead of money. We constantly compare ourselves to others based on what we do or do not have. When we do that, we are placing things or possessions above our love for the Lord. However, as this verse says, God will never fail us or abandon us. Money will fail over and over again. It will leave us empty and often alone. God is the only one who can fill your heart, so trust and love Him more than anything else in this world.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
May my love for you always exceed my love for anything in this world. You are always faithful. Amen.

Hebrews 13:4

Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.

Hebrews 13:4

Honor in Marriage

The best way to honor your spouse is to remain faithful to one another. This is God’s commandment in marriage. Protect your marriage by not giving in to lustful thoughts or actions. Matthew 5:28 says that when you list after someone, you are committing adultery in your heart, so protect your thoughts so you are not tempted.

This verse in Hebrews goes on to say that God will judge people who are immoral and commit adultery. This is another reason to stay faithful to your spouse. God will not honor unfaithfulness. However, He will honor your marriage and help you through difficult times when you strive to lead a faithful life. Spend some time in prayer today for your spouse and with your spouse.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for my spouse. Protect our minds so that we can bring you honor and glory through our marriage. Amen.

Psalm 56:2-3

I am constantly hounded by those who slander me,
and many are boldly attacking me.
 But when I am afraid,
I will put my trust in you. Psalm 56:2-3

A Trustworthy God

Trust is an important quality in any relationship. Trust can be frail and broken with any situation. It can be built upon and strengthened as well. David knew what it meant to trust in God. He had to trust in God throughout His life: in the beginning when he took on Goliath as a young man, then we’ve. He was on the run from Saul, and as he led the nation of Israel. He continuously trusted in the Lord when he was afraid and when he was unsure of the future. God never failed him. He failed God, but God continued to be faithful.

God is a loving God who is faithful and trustworthy. He always does what He says He will do. We can put our trust in Him when we are afraid and unsure of our future. He always walks with us and longs for His people to trust in Him everyday.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You are trustworthy and faithful. May I trust in you in all situations. Amen.

Isaiah 12:2

See, God has come to save me.
I will trust in him and not be afraid.
 The Lord God is my strength and my song;
he has given me victory." Isaiah 12:2

Trusting God

From the beginning of time, God had a plan to reconcile man to Himself. He came to save us and for that reason alone, we should trust in God and not be afraid. He knew that we would need a Savior to save us from our sins, so He sent Jesus to be that Savior. He knew the way this story would end. He knew that Jesus would be the victory we would need. That alone is reason to rejoice and be glad.

Is He your strength and song like He was for Isaiah? The amazing thing about this verse is that Isaiah lived before the cross of Christ. Yet, He still proclaimed the cross and knew that God would send a Savior and give victory. Since we live after the cross, we can proclaim that same victory because we see what God did to bring about the victory in our lives. He sent us the salvation we needed to live with Him forever.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the salvation of Jesus Christ. Thank you for the victory and making a way for me to be with you forever. Amen.

Psalm 19:9-10

Reverence for the Lord is pure,
     lasting forever.
 The laws of the Lord are true;
     each one is fair.
They are more desirable than gold,
     even the finest gold.
 They are sweeter than honey,
even honey dripping from the comb. Psalm 19:9-10

The Laws of the Lord

God is a fair God. He treats each person with love and respect. His laws are fair and are meant to guide the people of God and lead them in the way they should go. His laws are true and should be desirable for the Christian. The laws of the Old Testament were meant to expose the sin of man and their need for restoration. Now that we live in a world after the cross of Christ and His salvation, His laws are not necessarily to expose our sin as much as they are meant to show us how to live.

For the Psalmist here, the laws are more desirable than gold and sweeter than honey. He loved the laws of the Lord because He loved the Lord. If we really love the Lord, then we will love His laws as well. We will long to please Him and bring Him glory through the way we live because we love the Lord. May your love for the Lord lead you to love all things about Him, including His laws.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You are the love of my life. May my love for you and your laws grow more and more everyday. Amen.
