2 Corinthians 13: 8-9b

For we cannot oppose the truth, but must always stand for the truth. We are glad to seem weak if it helps show that you are actually strong.

2 Corinthians 13: 8-9b

His Strength Through Us

Standing for truth can often make us weary. It is one of the many things tha brings about weariness in our lives. However, when we stand for truth, we can have access to the strength of God. Have you ever heard someone say to someone fighting a hard battle: “You’re strong. You’ll get through it.” This is actually a lie. We are never strong on our own accord. We have to access His strength. It is only when we recognize our weakness that we can then access His strength. His strength within us can help us fight our battles or stand for truth. It is nothing that we can do on our own strength. Man alone can do nothing because he is but flesh. But man with God’s strength can endure and stand tall because he has the power of God racing through his blood.

So are you trying to rely on your own strength or are you accessing the strength of the Almighty? Do you trust that He will stand with you and help you in times when you feel weary? Spend some time in prayer today, asking Him to reveal His strength to you so you can fight your battles and stand for truth.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
It is your strength that can help me fight my battles. Breathe life in my bones so I can fight my battles and stand for truth. You alone are the giver of life. Amen

2 Peter 2:3

In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.

2 Peter 2:3

Be On Guard

Not only are there false teachers, but there are also people who are out to get whatever they can from you as this verse states. They want nothing more than to trick you, then get a hold of your money and possessions. Peter tells us here not to worry because God knows exactly who these people are. He is the one who will judge them accordingly. As with other sins, God is the only judge, he will be the one to judge the sins of the people.

Be on guard against people who speak falsely and for their own benefit. Instead, speak truth and love, make every effort to help others in need.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Help me guard my heart and life. May I always be watchful for those who want to take advantage of me.

2 Peter 1:4

And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

2 Peter 1:4

His Great Promises

God has given us great and precious promises! Since the world began He has been lavishing His people with His grace, mercy, love, and promises. He is not like man. He keeps His promises, Man is notorious for making promises and then breaking them. God is always faithful. He does not know how to be unfaithful.

Do you know the faithfulness of God? Have you basked in His love and promises recently? Or thanked Him for who He is, His glory and excellence? Spend some time in prayer today, asking God to help you recognize His goodness.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the promises that you give everyday. Thank you for your blessings and who you are. Amen.

2 Peter 1:3

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.

2 Peter 1:3

A Godly Life

We have been given everything we need to be able to lead a godly life. There are no expectations other than following Christ. When we came to know Him as Savior, He gave us everything we needed through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us what we need to live a life that pleases the Lord.

The Holy Spirit teaches and guides us through the Word of God. When we read the Bible, the Holy Spirit interprets His words and instructs us in the way we should live. So there is nothing we need to add to this Christian life to make it easier to follow Him. We do not need self-help books or the advice of others; we only need Him. Can the words of others help us, sure! We need to always go to Him first.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the Holy Spirit. May I allow Him to lead and guide me to be more like you. Amen.

Romans 15:13

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13

The God of Hope

God is our source of hope. Hope can only come from Him. Sure we can hope for temporary things: hope for a raise in our jobs, hope that something good will happen, hope that we’ll get to see someone we haven’t seen in a long time. But true hope that lasts only comes from Him. He is the source of that hope. When we trust in Him, the God of hope, he will fill us with his joy and peace. We will experience the joy He has placed in our hearts, and the peace that passes all understanding because He lives inside of us. Not only that, we will overflow with confident hope through his power! The Holy Spirit is living and active inside of us, constantly giving us this hope through His power. We must choose to be filled with His joy, peace, and hope as we walk throughout every day.

Are you living in His joy? Do you walk through your days choosing to be joyful and see the good? Are you living in His peace? Do you allow His peace to wash over you in difficult situations or when you’re feeling defeated? Are you living with His hope? Do you hope for HIm and who He is? Pray today and ask the Holy Spirit to stir these things up inside of you.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear God,
I know that you sent me the Holy Spirit to live and breathe inside of me. May I access your joy, peace, and hope and know that your Spirit will always work in me when I’m pursuing you. Amen

Jeremiah 17:14

O Lord, if you heal me, I will be truly healed; if you save me, I will be truly saved. My praises are for you alone!

Jeremiah 17:14

Trust in the Lord

Jeremiah really understood his need for the Lord. He had a sense of urgency and told the Israelites about the wrath of God that would come if the people didn’t change their ways. However, they wouldn’t listen to him and completely ignored his warnings. Jeremiah would live his life alone and without anyone to share his life with. God warned him that he should live his life alone or he would watch his family die because of the destruction that was coming. Jeremiah knew that God could heal him and save him. He praised God because He was the one in charge.

Do you trust God and know that He is the One who is in control? Do you believe He can heal you and save you? Do you give him alone the praise for the good that happens in your life. Today is a good day to begin. Pray and give Him the praise for every single thing that has happened in your life.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You are the reason for everything good in my life. I know that when I leave you in control, there is peace in my life. When I try to take control, everything always falls apart. I give you control today and everyday. Amen

1 Peter 5:6

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.

1 Peter 5:6

Humility

We live in a prideful world. A world where people will say and do anything to get ahead. A world where people put their own desires and advances above anyone else. To be humble means you are weak.

The Bible tells us the opposite. If you humble yourself, God will lift you up. The key is that HE is the one who lifts you up, not anyone else, not yourself. The word humility means “: freedom from pride or arrogance : the quality or state of being humble,” in the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Would you rather seem strong here on earth or have the Lord lift you up? Spend some time today, asking God to help give you a spirit of humility.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear God,
May I have a humble spirit just like Jesus. May I serve others with the same spirit that Christ had when He was on Earth. Amen.

Hebrews 11:2

Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.

Hebrews 11:2

The People of Old

Throughout the Old Testament we see many examples of faith. Hebrews 11 is famously known as the faith chapter because it recounts some of the best examples of faith there is. Some of these people even messed up but they were still counted as righteous.

Who are some of the people in your life who you credit as righteous? For me it was a youth leader. He was more like a father figure for everyone in our youth group. Even in difficult times, he still showed us his faith through his actions and words. He worked tirelessly on events and Bible studies to help us grow in our faith. Take some time to pray for the people God has placed in your life and thank him for their faith.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the people you have placed in my life over the years who love you and have invested in my spiritual growth as well. Amen.

Hebrews 11:1

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.

Hebrews 11:1

A Faith that Sees

This verse is known as the faith verse. It is the definition of faith, everything we know faith to be, and a reminder of the faith we should have. It is the reality of all things hoped for. Faith gives us a reason to get up in the morning and a reason to keep going everyday. Without faith we would lead an empty, self-absorbed life. It is also the evidence of all the things we cannot see. It is the miracle of a baby born too soon. It is the healing of a cancer too progressed. It is the repair of a relationship after many years. It is so many things.

What is faith to you? What do you hope for? Is it something temporary or eternal? When we hope in things eternal, we are living out our faith. When we hope in things that we see in front of us, we are distracting from our faith. That really isn’t faith at all. Turn toward the Lord today and begin to hope in eternal things and you will see your faith come to life.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear God,
May I have the type of faith that looks to you during hard times and good times. May I stay focused on you everyday. Amen.

John 14:29

I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe.

John 14:29

Believe

Jesus gave us every reason to believe in Him. The entire Old Testament is full of prophecies proclaiming His coming, His death, and resurrection. Jesus Himself prophesied about His death and resurrection. No one understood His purpose, but He never wavered. He was always faithful to His Father’s plan.

He said that the reason He said and did the things He did was so that His followers would believe even more in who He was. Everything He said and did was evidence of who He really was. Do you believe He is who He said He is? Think about this in terms of today’s world. God is still giving us evidence of who is today. We will miss it if we do not open our eyes to everything He has done and is still doing.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
I believe you are the Son of God. You are who you proclaimed to be. Amen.
