Psalm 32:8

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.

Psalm 32:8

The Best Path

What a great promise from the Lord! He will guide us and show us the path for our lives. He will advise us in the way we should go and watch over us. He is such a good caretaker over us. Why would we want to try and do things ourselves? Why would we try and plan out our own lives? Yet, even though we know that God can care for us and knows the best path for our lives, we still try to take things into our own hands.

This Psalm of David is a conversation between David and the Lord. The verse before (in verse 7) says, “For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory.” David hid himself in the Lord and knew that in Him he would find protection and victory. Verse 8 is God’s response to David. When we hide ourselves in Him as David did, we will find protection, guidance, and ultimately victory.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You are my protection. You are my way of life. In you I find victory. Thank you Lord for always watching over me. Amen.

Today’s Truth: His Grace and His Glory

God’s grace is like the ocean, spread out reaching as far as it can. With every tide, it washes over those who are in need of His presence and mercy. His grace is for anyone with a pulse who is willing to give up their own control. 2 Corinthians 4:15 says, “All of this is for your benefit. And as God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory.”

The angels rejoice when someone comes to know Christ. Every time God pours out His grace and people accept the salvation of His Son, there is much rejoicing and thanksgiving. God’s grace is for every person, no matter what they have done, where they have been, or who they are. God looks down and sees His image; He sees people in need of His loving grace. God, in His kindness, gave His grace freely. It cost us nothing, but it cost Him everything. He gave His beloved Son so that we may be with Him in eternity. When we come to know Him, we give Him glory. It is all for His glory.

May you experience His grace and mercy today if you do not know Him in a personal way. If you do know Him, then extend that same grace to those around you whether they deserve it or not. After all, He has extended it to you.

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2:10

God’s Masterpiece

We are God’s masterpiece. His greatest creation. We are the only ones that He chose to have a relationship with, not the animals or beasts of the sea, but human beings. He fashioned us in His image. Not only that, but from the beginning of time, He had great things planned for us. He knew that man would sin and would need a reckoning, so He planned to give up His Son Jesus so we would be restored.

Psalm 139 describes this masterpiece in greater detail. Verses 1-2 tell us that He examines our hearts and knows every thought in our heads. Verses 3-6 say that He knows where we go, what we will say before a word is on our tongues, and describes how He goes before us and follows us. We can never hide from His Spirit as verses 7-12 tell us. Then, the chapter tells us in verses 13-16 how He knit us together in the womb, He formed us completely, every cell and every hair on our heads. He saw every day before they occurred and knows exactly how many days we have. He is trustworthy because He is Creator, He is Savior, and He is the Orchestrator of it all.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You created me and know every part of me. Thank you for being my creator God and my Savior. Amen.

Today’s Truth: Raised to New Life

When this world is over and it is time for Jesus to return, we will know that the promise the Apostle Paul makes in 2 Corinthians 4:14 will come to fruition: “We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus, will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together with you.”

This is the promise that we can cling to as Christians. We know that just as God raised Jesus from the dead, He can raise us as well when Jesus returns. We will be caught up with Him and taken to heaven to live with Him for all eternity. This was His plan from the beginning of time. His plan was never for man to continue to live in sin, but to be rescued and given new life and the promise of eternity.

Do you believe Him and what He says about eternity? Do you believe that He is the God He says He is? Do you truly believe that He raised Jesus from the dead? There are many religions that do not believe this key event. It is what separates Christianity from the rest of religions. If you believe this simple truth, then you can also hold on to the truth that He will raise you to live too in eternity with Him.

Matthew 7:25

Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.

Matthew 7:25

The Wise Man

If you have been a Christian very long, then you are familiar with the children’s song about the wise man and the foolish man. Just like the song, Matthew 7:24 states that “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.” Though the torrential rains come and the floodwaters and winds threaten to destroy the house, it will not be destroyed because the wise man built that house on solid rock.

The Christian life is the same way. The wise Christian builds his life on the strong foundation of God, the salvation of Jesus, the work of the Holy Spirit, and the guidance of the Word of God. The foolish person tries to build his life on only one of these instead of recognizing how it all fits together. That life will not last. Only the Christian life built on the things of God will last forever.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Thank you for being my foundation. May I build my life on godly things instead of my own strength or things of this world. Amen.

Today’s Truth: I Believe in You

King David had a very intimate relationship with the Lord. In Psalm 116:10 he said, “I believed in you, so I said, ‘I am deeply troubled, Lord.'” Paul quotes this verse in 2 Corinthians 4:13: “But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith the psalmist had when he said, “I believed in God, so I spoke.” What kind of relationship is this?

David had the kind of Relationship with God that he could talk and God would listen. He was so close to the Lord that He valued what the Lord said. He listened to the Lord and the Lord listened to Him. He shared His deepest feelings with the Lord. He went to the Lord before he went to anyone else. Paul admired the relationship David had with God the Father and explains that in 2 Corinthians 4:13. He describes His faith as being like David’s. He spoke confidently to the Lord because He believed in Him.

As a child of God, we can speak to God in the same way, as though He is a friend or family member. We can share when we are afraid or frustrated, or we can share any other type of emotion. We can speak to Him knowing that He will listen. When Christ died on the cross, He tore the veil between God and man. We can communicate freely with Him because Jesus made a way. When we pray, the Holy Spirit will intercede for us and help us know what to say.

1 Corinthians 2:9

That is what the Scriptures mean when they say,
"No eye has seen, no ear has heard,
     and no mind has imagined
 what God has prepared
for those who love him." 1 Corinthians 2:9

His Beautiful Plan

God has a beautiful plan for those who love Him and choose His salvation. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'” He has good plans for His people. His plans include a joyous life with Him on earth and in heaven. We cannot even imagine all He has planned for us as 1 Corinthians 2:9 quotes. Just as a parent longs to shower their child with blessings out of their love for them, so the Lord is with us. He showers His children with blessings out of His love for us. These blessings are not necessarily physical blessings, but spiritual. A life spent with God is the greatest blessing we can have.

Do you believe the good that God has prepared for you? Do you spend time looking for the physical and material good or are you more focused on the spiritual blessings? A life spent with God is a blessing that surpasses anything else.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
You are such a blessing in my life. May I bring honor and glory to you all my days.

Today’s Truth: Serving in the Face of Danger

Serving Jesus Christ means that we may face dangers. Look at the life of Paul. From the minute he was converted to Christ, he began experiencing harm and despair. However, he did not count it as despair. He pressed on to know Christ more and more. The more he knew about Christ, the more he shared it with the world around him. This was his attitude in 2 Corinthians 4:11-12: “Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies. So we live in the face of death, but this has resulted in eternal life for you.” His constant state of danger resulted in eternal life. It also resulted in the salvation of many.

While God may not be calling you to put yourself in the middle of danger, He may be calling you to endure and persevere trials and persecution. Maybe He is calling you to take a stand at your job for what is right. Maybe He is calling you to defend the poor and helpless. Maybe He is calling you into a life of missions, spreading the gospel from nation to nation.

Whatever He is calling you to, have the attitude of Paul. Say, “Yes, Lord,” and follow Him wherever He is leading. Consider others’ lives more valuable than your own and the gospel message more important than anything else. When you do, you will carry the cross of Christ with you wherever you go.

Psalm 37:8

Stop being angry!
     Turn from your rage!
 Do not lose your temper-
it only leads to harm. Psalm 37:8

Anger Does Not Produce Righteousness

Anger can be one of the most dangerous emotions. It can start as just a little spark and then, before you know it, it erupts into a flame and starts a fire. Temper turns into rage. The Psalmist is warning the reader to stop being angry and turn from rage. If you lose your temper it could only lead to harm. We see this in the world today in politics, relationships, celebrities, and more. Countries against countries, families against families, politicians against politicians and sides against other sides. Anger ignites.

James 1:19-20 tells us, “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.” We should be quick to listen to each other and slow to speak and get angry. Be patient with one another in love. Offer grace and forgiveness. Then we will be able to produce righteousness.

A Prayer to Remember

Dear Lord,
Help me be quick to listen and slow to become angry. May I be gracious and forgiving when others wrong me. May I follow your example. Amen.

Today’s Truth: Sharing in the Death

We were never made for this world. We were created for heaven, to live in eternity with God the Father forever. Once sin crept into this world, our bodies began to decay. We are meant for heaven, our permanent home, but we are residing in these temporary bodies. So while we are on this earth, we will experience heartache, troubles, and suffering.

2 Corinthians 4:10 says, “Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.” Everyday our bodies inch closer and closer to death. We suffer in this life because this life is only temporary. When Paul said that through suffering, we share in the death of Christ, he was showing how the death of Christ was what motivated his life. It spurred him on to serve and love others. The life of Christ was vibrant in the life of Paul. He was willing to die for his faith because his Savior died for him. There was nothing in this life that could shake Paul because he carried the death of Christ with him.

So while we live in this world, we will experience suffering, but when we carry the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ within us, we will live for Christ, serve for Christ, love others like Christ.
