Verse of the Day

Hebrews 12:3-4: Where to Look When You’re Worn Out

Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

Hebrews 12:3-4 (NIV)

Where to Look When You’re Worn Out

Jesus finished what he started. Hebrews says he endured the cross for the joy set before him and then sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.

The letter was written to believers who had lost things for their faith and were tired. The writer tells them where to look: “Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

Then he sets their struggle beside the cross: “you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.” Jesus did, and he got to the end of it. Their fight was hard and still going, but it hadn’t gone as far as his.

When you’re worn out, look at Jesus, who finished. When your eyes drift, look again.

A Prayer to Remember

God, I pray for everyone who is tired this morning, and for me. Turn our eyes to your Son, who endured it all, and don’t let us lose heart.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
