“Save yourselves from this crooked generation!” Peter strongly urged the listeners as he preached to the people in Acts 2:40. He knew that even after their salvation, they would experience the temptations of the world and the enemy. They would be returning to a crooked society that would try to entice them and would need to rely on their salvation.
John tells us in 1 John 2:15-16, “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.” We are not to love this world or anything in the world. It has nothing to offer us except heartache and sin.
Why shouldn’t we live as the world lives? 1 John 2:17 goes on to say, “And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.” The world is passing away, but the man who lives for the Lord will live forever in eternity with Him!
