For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.2 Peter 1:5-7
With godliness comes brotherly affection. When you are striving to lead a godly life, you will be more likely to show love to others. This verse does not say show love to people who you like, or only your friends and family. This verse says to show love to EVERYONE. This includes people who annoy you or anyone else who you may be at odds with. This is how Jesus loved and if we are to be more godly, then we will also want to live this way!
Think about people who are easy to love and those who are not so easy to love. Spend some time in prayer for those who are not as easy to love, that God would give you the ability to love those people without any conditions.
A Prayer to Remember
You are the ultimate example of love. I only know how to love because you first loved me. Thank you for loving me. Help me love others in the same way. Amen.
