Write to me.
About anything. You do not have to explain why you are writing, and you do not have to be having a hard week to be worth an answer.
Or write from your own mail, at thomas@hopehealingwords.com, if you would rather keep a copy of what you sent.
- One person Everything here was written by me, and I read everything that comes back. There is no team and no queue.
- Within a week Most of them, in the order they arrived, on evenings. If yours cannot wait, say so in the first line and I will find it.
- Nowhere else Writing to me puts you on no list, and your address goes to nobody. What you send stays between the two of us.
If a week is too long
Some things will not keep that long, and I would rather say so here than have you find it out waiting. If you are thinking about ending your life, or you are frightened of what you might do tonight, there are people who pick up straight away and who are trained for exactly this.
- In the United States, call or text 988. Free, and answered day and night.
- Anywhere else, findahelpline.com lists the number for your country.
Calling them is not an overreaction, and you will not be taking the line from somebody worse off than you. Write to me afterward if you want to. I will still be here.
What I can help with
Gladly
- Pray for you, which I do rather than say
- Answer a question about a verse, or say plainly that I do not know
- Read something you have written and tell you honestly what I think
- Correct a reference, a link, or a reading that got something wrong
- Help you find somebody near you when what you need is a person in a room
Not by email

Counseling
I have sat with people through the worst weeks of their lives for fifteen years, and I have never charged anybody for it. That work happens in a room, over months, with a church around it that can hold me to account when I get something wrong. Taking on somebody’s life by email is a different thing wearing the same word, and I would be no good at it. Ask me and I will help you find the real thing where you are.
-
Money
I am asked a few times a year, almost always by somebody with a real need, and I have to say no every time. There is no fund here to give from, and no honest way to weigh one story against another from this distance. It is the refusal I like least, and I have never found a kinder way to say it than plainly.
-
Whether to leave your church
People ask, and I understand why they would rather ask a stranger than somebody who knows everyone involved. I still will not answer it. I do not know your church, I have heard one side of it, and a decision that size should not rest on the word of a man who has read four paragraphs.

Advertising, guest posts, links
No, to all of it, every time. You can save yourself the email.
Four things you do not have to ask me for
- Stopping the morning letter
- The link at the bottom of any one of them, which works the moment you press it and takes you off every list at once. No reason needed, and none will be asked for.
- Stopping a monthly gift
- Your own PayPal account, under Automatic Payments. It is yours to end whenever you like, without telling me and without explaining.
- The book
- Free to everybody, no address asked for. The link is in the footer of every reading.
- Your name on the wall
- A short form of its own, on the page you land on after giving. Writing to me works too, though it takes me longer.
