A cookie is a small file a site leaves in your browser so it can recognize something on your next visit. This page lists what Hope Healing Words leaves behind, and what each one is for.
The list is short, and shorter than it would be on most sites, because there is no website analytics here. Nothing tracks how you move around the site.
What the site itself sets
Almost nothing, and nothing at all if you only read.
| Cookie | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
wordpress_logged_in_* | Keeps the person who runs the site signed in. Never set for readers. | Until sign-out |
wp-settings-* | Remembers editing preferences inside the admin area. Never set for readers. | 1 year |
_lscache_vary | Tells the page cache to serve the signed-in version rather than the cached one. Set only after signing in. | Session |
If you subscribe to the daily email or send a message, the form does not leave a cookie behind. Your address is stored on the server, which the Privacy Policy covers.
What Google sets for advertising
The site carries Google AdSense, which pays for the hosting. Google sets its own cookies from its own domains, and it, rather than us, decides what they contain.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
__gads | googlesyndication.com | Measures how many times an advertisement has been shown and limits repeats | 13 months |
__gpi | googlesyndication.com | Helps choose which advertisements to show | 13 months |
IDE | doubleclick.net | Links an advertisement you saw to an action you took later | 13 months |
test_cookie | doubleclick.net | Checks whether your browser accepts cookies at all | 15 minutes |
NID | google.com | Remembers your Google preferences, including advertising settings | 6 months |
Google may change this list without telling us. What Google does with the data is set out in Google’s policy for sites that use its services.
What we do not use
- No website analytics. There is no Google Analytics here, and no other measurement script. We do not know which pages you read.
- No social media pixels. No Facebook pixel, no Twitter tag, nothing of that kind.
- No advertising network besides Google.
- No cookies that follow you across other people’s sites beyond the Google advertising ones above.
Turning them off
For advertising: go to Google’s Ads Settings and turn off personalized advertising. You will still see advertisements here, and everything on the site keeps working. They will just stop being chosen from your browsing history.
For everything, at once: every browser lets you block or delete cookies. Look for Privacy or Site Settings in your browser’s preferences. Blocking them all will not stop you reading anything here, because none of the reading depends on a cookie.
If you live in California: the Privacy Policy sets out your right to opt out of sharing for advertising and how to use it.
Changes to this page
When the site starts or stops using something, this page changes and the date at the top changes with it.
