Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:11
The Sanctification of Believers
Sanctification is the process of purification. According to Dictionary.com there are several definitions for this biblical word: to make holy, set apart as sacred, consecrate. Another definition is to purify or free from sin. When someone comes to know the Lord, God begins the process of setting them apart. Their salvation guarantees them a heavenly home when they die, but sanctification is what draws them closer to the Lord and deeper in their spiritual walk.
God shapes us and molds us into the person He created us to be. He is the potter and we are the clay. Jeremiah 18:6 says, “As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.” We are in His hands. We can trust Him as our Creator and know that everything we go through in this life is part of the process to sanctify us.
A Prayer to Remember
Dear Lord,
I am your clay. Mold me and shape me. Help me trust that everything you are doing is for my good. I know that you are a good God.
